US Online Poker

Poker Online

Several states in the US have legalized online poker. Some of them include Michigan, Nevada, and New Jersey. Some other states are en route to legalizing the game. Despite these developments, some poker platforms remain unsuitable for US players. Some have been accused of money laundering, and some of them have closed.

In 2006, the federal government passed the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act, making it illegal for banks to do business with online gaming sites. This led to the closure of some major poker platforms. But, some US-based poker players decided to turn to foreign-based platforms.

There are many US-based poker operators. Some offer more games than others. Some also accept cryptocurrency deposits and withdrawals. Some even have mobile apps. Some of these are reliable, while others are not.

Some states have specific laws that ban the operation of offshore poker sites. However, most state laws do not mention the legality of offshore poker sites specifically.

For instance, Ohio has gambling statutes that do not mention online poker sites in particular. But, they do carve out specific exceptions for online gambling. Some of these include spin and go tournaments, which allow players to play just one hand.

Some of these are extremely popular on mobile devices. Some of them have quick seat options, which take the player to the table when it’s ready. Some have geolocation software that makes sure the player is in a legal jurisdiction.

Some poker players prefer to play for “play money” rather than real money. Some of them get too cute, and they call a hand they should fold. But, playing for real money requires more skill. Moreover, it is difficult to resolve disputes over money.
